Karaöz – Adrasan

Because of the layout of the Lycian road sections, the Lycian road part shown in this section reaches the settlement of Karaöz from the coast and continues towards the cape in parallel fashion to the dirt road. This part is shown in Section 22. The Lycian road moves around the slope where the Gelidonia Lighthouse is located at further south and via the forest path, arrives at the settlement of Adrasan, as seen in Section 21 again. The Lycian road passes the Adrasan coast and moves upwards from the creek basin at the end of the coast.

Upon the asphalt road, at the point where the lodging houses and restaurants end over the creek basin, the Lycian road moves toward right and ascends in the direction of the Olympus settlement. The settlement of Adrasan is the only settlement within this section in which essential needs such as food, water, etc. can be met.

ADRASAN

Adrasan is one of the sheltered natural harbors on the marine trade route that extends from Kaş-Kekova to the ancient city of Phaselis. Today, some of the bay has been filled with the alluvial deposit carried by the Adrasan Creek and marshlands began to be formed due to a decrease in the water level.

One of the known archaeological remains of Adrasan, which is the only sheltered natural harbor on the marine trade route that extends from from Kaş-Kekova to the ancient city of Phaselis, is the watchtower on a hill at the north of the bay with full view of the bay while the other one is the castle on the hill at the west of the bay which belongs to the late period and which draws attention with its mortared walls and structure complex. On the hill at the north of Adrasan Bay, which is called the Kızkalesi Hill, there are defensive buildings of various periods and there is a watchtower at the top of the hill. This watchtower, which has a full view of Adrasan Bay, has been used during the Ottoman period as well.

At the west of the bay, in the northeast of the Byzantine Castle at the hill in Çakmak neighborhood, between the Adrasan Harbor and Kızkale Hill, a basilica has been constructed within view of the castle. The castle was built in order to control the plain around it and provided an opportunity to escape for the people of the region during attacks. In the slopes between two castles in Çakmak neighborhood, 11 tombs of different sizes which were placed within the rock bottom, formed with simple stones and covered with flat stones were found.
There are glass fragrance bottles, bronze mirrors, ivory antiques, earthenware and coins from the late 1st century BC among the artifacts that were found in the tombs.

The order in which the tombs were arrayed indicates that this area was most probably a necropolis. And the quality antiques found within the tombs indicate that this settlement may have had an important share in the Mediterranean trade route.
